Telstra Partners with Netduma to Launch Game Optimiser, Enhancing Online Gaming for Australian Players

September 16, 2020

Sydney, Australia

Telstra has announced that an open beta for its Game Optimiser product will commence on 22 September 2020, offering Australian gamers customisation options to enhance their gaming performance. The beta, available until 9 November 2020, is open to eligible Telstra nbn fixed broadband customers with an eligible Smart modem.

Developed in collaboration with Netduma and powered by the award-winning DumaOS, Telstra’s Game Optimiser service is designed to give gamers a competitive edge by helping to:

  • Combat network congestion by prioritising gaming traffic and devices.
  • Reduce jittering and lagging by allocating more bandwidth to gaming devices.
  • Improve multiplayer performance with features like the Ping Heatmap and Geo-Filter for optimising server connections.
  • Monitor home network usage to identify bandwidth-hogging applications via the Network Monitor function.

Eligible Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 users can subscribe to the Game Optimiser beta, with the first month free for new subscribers. Details on eligibility and participation can be found at telstra.com/game-optimiser.

Telstra encourages participants to share feedback on their experiences, which will help refine Game Optimiser ahead of its official launch later this year.

Nathan Gumley, Telstra’s Principal for Gaming, stated: “We know the in-home network experience is important for customers, especially for online gamers where mere milliseconds can mean the difference between victory and defeat. There are millions of gamers in Australia, and we know a lot of them choose to play with Telstra because of our leading fixed network. Now we have a way to give our customers the controls to do their own fine-tuning within their home network to help improve the latency experience for their gaming.”

Luke Barlow, CEO at Netduma, added: “DumaOS is used to optimise connections and get the most from online gameplay worldwide, but Telstra was the first to realise that DumaOS could be integrated directly into your service provider modem. By providing access to DumaOS as a subscription-based service for eligible customers, Telstra will make innovative, award-winning features available to more gamers looking to get an edge."
